About the Researcher

Justin Cummings
Our Beloved Chief Archivist

Chief Archivist Justin Cummings is a writer, game developer, illustrator, TTRPG creator, and aspiring iconoclastic firebrand. His credits in the video game industry include titles like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Aether & Iron, and BioShock.

Justin works with talented teams to craft high level story content, compelling characters, cinematics, quest narratives & dialogue, systemic VO, worldbuilding, menu & UI text, and more. He believes all game developers are storytellers, and thrives on collaboration with designers, artists, audio engineers, producers, programmers, and creators of every kind.

Justin is passionate about genre fiction and finding ways to inject diversity, freshness, and nuance into commercial media. He enjoys working with teams of all sizes, and prioritizes projects and workspaces that are healthy and inclusive.

He has written 5 shipped video games, over 250 critical analysis essays on games and cinema, multiple original Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules, a musical produced by UCFollies at the University of Toronto, and some truly embarrassing fan fiction.

As the founder and sole member of the Bad Idea Institute, Justin's regrettable lack of creative excellence is the fuel lighting its ever-burning beacons of mediocrity.

Dedicated to creative discovery through woeful miscalculation since 1989, the Institute remains a trusted worldwide portal to Really Dumb Stuff.
